Still at the end of the year 2009 the newspaper called Wyoming Tribune Eagle in course of performing sort of background check requested from the Laramie County School District 1 the public records listing names and salaries of all School District 1 employees. Anyway, the school districts authorities denied the access to those documents stating that Wyoming Education Code contains provisions prohibitin disclosure of the sallaries in conjunction with the names of the specific employees even if the district is obliged to release the salary data for public inspection in catagorized manner (by category).
Now the journalists and the school officials entered a legal battle to have it decided by the court whether the documents containing salaries with names of the school district employees are publick records. The districts takes the matter very seriously. Still earlier back in 2009 it issued a special letter addressed to their employees asking them for their opinion and examples how the release of wages information could harm them.
